We are looking to lock down the 13th Street Theater between October and November 2019 for our play on the famous J.D. Salinger… called “A Life In The Rye”. Written by Claude Solnik and Directed by Joe Battista as well as Produced by Joe Battista and Robert Massimi and his Gimme Shelter Productions, LLC. Claude Solnik is a Writer In Residence at the Theater for The New City. He has written many plays their, but Salinger is coming further uptown for a three week run with the hopes and anticipation that it will move to an even bigger house after it’s run at 13Th Street Theater.
Joe Battista will take care of the entire artistic side of this play- casting, set design as well as Directing. Battista has formed a stenographic team that will work in tandem with Joe. Mr. Battista is the Theater Director at 13th Street and is undertaking this project as he sees the potential for a show like this.  Mr. Battista has Directed many shows including the  well received “Before Were Gone”, which starred the very talented Leenya Rideout. Stage Biz said “It tickles your feel-good muscles”.  Joe Battista brings a lot of experience to this show.
Claude Solnik has written more than eighteen plays. His works like “Grace Is Good” and  ” A Walk On The Beach”, about the Kennedy family were well received both by the audience, but also by the press. He is currently putting out “The Bohemians”, which will at TNC in early December, 2018. “A Life In The Rye” will be brought to the prestigious 13th Street Theater so that it can be in full view for the New York Audience. “A Life In The Rye” focuses on J.D. Salinger and how his life changed when ” A Catcher In The Rye” was published. It promises to be captivating. The running time has not been exactly set as of yet, but the play promises to be entertaining.
Robert Massimi is a Drama Critic for Metropolitan Magazine, Jerrick Media and UR Business Network. Robert M Massimi and his Gimme Shelter Productions, Llc, a Delaware based company has produced both off Broadway as well as on Broadway. As a former board member of The Metropolitan Playhouse, Massimi produced over twelve productions. He is getting a “Story By” credit as well as a “Title By” for this show.
Massimi met Solnik at the Theater For The New City and began to discuss Salinger. They both decided to put a show on about J.D. Salinger. As a Drama Critic, Massimi has seen many Directors and he thought that Battista would be perfect to direct this play. The play is still in reworks but is coming to the point where it will be sharpened down to it’s final form.  After readings, the three will make the final touches of what is already a great script. All three are very happy at where the show is right now. “A Life In The Rye” promises to be a great production.
“A Life In The Rye” will be more than just giving Salinger’s life in a nut-shell. It will give the audience an overview of what the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were like. The play will also give the audience some shocking affects as well. The play will also examine the life changing things that happened to J.D. Salinger in his life. Salinger saw some pretty ugly things when he was in World War Two. The play will look at his family, his relationship with his parents, as well as the people that he came in contact with during his life.
We will be publishing more information as the show gets closer to it’s opening. “A Life In The Rye” will be as entertaining as it is educational. It will bring the audience back in time and promises something for everyone.
A U.S. Tour is not out of the question for this play. Salinger is a mystique throughout the world. His story may be told throughout the country. The production team has not decided yet which states would be best as of yet. Most importantly, the three are very proud to be opening this show in New York City, New York.
