Unfolding Eastern Munich — Lia Sáile

UNFOLDING EASTERN MUNICH

Cultures and religions shape the coexistence of modern cities. In their diversity, they occupy space in urban life in various forms, whereby their presence, their scope for action and possibility, their public visibility and their perception by the population not only differ greatly, but also change continuously. The resulting tensions are also inscribed in the urban (self-)image in Munich’s city history.

In the public art intervention EASTERN MUNICH, a selection of 111 floor plans of past, present and possible future sacred spaces and buildings of the monotheistic world religions were projected onto Wittelsbacher Platz on two evenings in October 2019 during the Long Night of Munich Museums.

This catalogue-turned-art-book for the artist Lia Sáile collects contributions by cooperation partners* of the project, a selection of the collected and projected floor plans of sacred spaces, photographs of the light installation projections at Wittelsbacher Platz as well as some process images from the two-year development period of the project EASTERN MUNICH.
