The design principles are to have an accessible place for everyone that embodies civic principles. And it should be authentic to the city and represents the best of surrounding neighborhoods also it should be a place of respite and a place to meet your neighbors. In addition to this a model for sustainable and resilient urban infrastructure and “the safest place in the city”.
In order to achieve a sustainable design in this project. The civic center will accommodate solar panels on the roof since it will be the highest building in its surrounding. Therefor it will achieve energy efficiency through these solar panels. In addition to this the building is naturally lit in all its parts. So this will also achieve energy efficiency. The center has a large courtyard with greenery, this will naturally ventilate the building which will also allow energy efficiency.
This civic center is to bring life back to Monot by reviving the social life and culture of it. By doing that students from the university will start to come to the center after there classes. It serves as a library and fun place since it has restaurants and cinemas. These students are the targeted users and everyone in the range of 16 to 28 years will come to this center.
The civic center will bring back the culture of Monot by the main two elevations on the street. These facades will respect the architecture of Monot. And the civic center will have open spaces to reach out for social activities.
