Typophoto Book Cover Design
Book: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Statement of Intent:
This project is an exploration of typophoto and book cover design. Taking on themes from the book itself, I've incorporated a dark tone throughout the cover. The title of the book received an attempt at a typophoto treatment inspired by László Moholy-Nagy featuring distortion but still being legible. The title also uses light from the flashlight to emphasize something dark. The colorway I used is red, black, & white to set the sinister tone that is featured within the story. The type used in the project were different weights of Futura. Both photos of the front and back cover were treated, making both images black and white and edits with the contrast. Feathers were incorporated because of a certain event in the story that happened while the protagonist, Libby Day, was heading off to bed.
