GAD 2001 - Compound Word: "Moon rocks"

For our Image-Making project we were instructed to color illustration based on a compound word.  The elements we used to create our image would visually "sound out" the word, but wouldn't relate to its actual definition.  I chose the term "moon rocks" for my project and I created a photo collage of a guitar player with the moon in place of his head at a concert.
I was inspired by concert photographers to make this image.  The concept does still include the moon, but I switched the meaning of "rocks" to follow the project guidelines.  I created a collage in Photoshop with separate images of the moon, guitar player body, stage, lights, and crowd. I had a difficult time portraying the "rock and roll" aspect through the collage format, but I eventually found the right effects and blend modes to get it right.
This project had an interesting process, especially working with the playful concept of using compound words.  The assignment challenged us to think outside of the box and create something that would produce a "smile in the mind."
