User Experience – UX Design
Minneapolis College Fall, 2020

 Project Name: Clairvoyance

Executive Summary: This search engine plug-in was designed to enhance the accessibility of image information within a few clicks.  Clairvoyance focuses on efficiency and clarity for mobile users.   Users were instructed to find royalty and artist contact information using the plug-in.

Methodology:  Testing participants were Public Affairs professionals often looking for images to use in marketing as well as creating memes for entertainment.   The test subjects were coworkers of the designer. Subjects shared their screen and provided prompted commentary while going through the process of contacting an artist and figuring out the royalty rights of participant chosen photos.  After completing the tasks, participants were asked qualifying open ended questions and requested to rate the experience on three usability aspects on a scale of 0 to 6.

Participants:       Scott Newman,  US Army Public Affairs Officer
                             Chris Farley, Public Affairs professional

Feedback:
1.         Q: . What did not work how you expected it to?
Response: Participants did not  to have to do a long hold on the image. Participants expected to be able to click on the artist name to go to the website.  Participants believed they were contacting the artist when they were on Clairvoyance's contact website page.

2.         Q: What information do you wish was accessible through this plug-in?
Response: Participants expected image size information in the pop-up window.

3.         Q: Who do you hold responsible for lack of information in provided fields?
Response: Participants believed the app was at fault for lack of information.

Themes observed across tasks:
All users did not see the "info" button until instructed.  All users found it difficult to click on the small selector box.  All users were pleasantly surprised with the ability to access the image royalty definitions and Clairvoyance site with a single click. All participants were incorrectly sure they were contacting the artist from the Clairvoyance contact form.

User Ratings
1. Was this more efficient than your normal process to access the same information?

2. How credible did you find the information to be?

3. Did you immediately feel that the pop-up window was correlated to clicking on 'image info"

Response:  All participants rated 5 for aspects 2, and 3.  One Participant rated not at all for aspect 1 stating that he rarely used any of the information.

Implications:  After the following resolutions, the site will move forward to publication.  We will continually monitor updates to mobile standards and adjust accordingly.  The user testing proved it to be a useful and desired plug-in for our target audience.

Resolutions:
1. Update the "info" in menu to reflect modern mobile menu
2. Change "Contact" navigation  and page introduction to clarify you are contacting Clairvoyance and not the artist
3. Change the prototype setting for menu to tap instead of "while pressing"
4. Link artists name to their external website
