This illustrated map of the NFL Super Bowl XLIII Event Campus, including a closeup detailed rendering of the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida, was one of the most ambitious 3D maps created for the Map Network.
Serving as a staple graphic for both print and interactive online usage for the NFL's Super Bowl XLIII Event Guide, the illustrated map aimed to enhance the ease and depth of the visitor experience to the Super Bowl by providing both indepth information and by visualizing the story of the client's scope of offerings and experiences available to visitors.
I designed and illustrated this map for the Super Bowl XLIII Event Guide while working as a graphic designer for the Map Network in Washington, DC. Working with an assistant designer, we created the base map angle and visual style. Afterwards, I went in and designed the stadium illustration, icons, and based the rest of the map on official NFL style guides.

Yet, with each layer properly named and organized, editing the image and preparing it for online usage in Adobe Flash was quick and easy. All work was done in Adobe Illustrator.

Plenty of planning and sketching was required to create the Raymond James Stadium for The Map Network’s Super Bowl Maps and Guides. Starting with only a 2D vector schematic of the stadium’s architectural layout, I used sketches such as these to realize the schematics into a 3D illustration. The sketches themselves helped me bridge the gap between 2D schematic and both 3D photos of the stadium and satellite imagery to plan the elements of the stadium, what the perspectives would be, how the lighting angles would affect coloring and shading, and how to construct the details in Illustrator.
