Earth overshoot day is the calendar date that our demand for resources exceeds supply for that year. Overfishing, over farming and emitting more greenhouse gasses year-on-year means that every year, overshoot day arrives earlier.

In 2020, it was estimated to be on 31 July 2020.

We needed to raise awareness among decision makers and thought leaders that time is running out, so we used time itself. We created an hourglass overshoot calendar, counting down the days to overshoot day 2020.
