Logo Design and Color Palette for Big World Boxes

Big World Boxes: Logo & Color Palette
Logo and extensive color palette for Seattle-based startup, Big World Boxes. The aim of the company is to bring children and caregivers together with open-ended, nature-based projects that can open eyes and hearts to the big world around us.
Case Study/Behind the Scenes:

The clients approached me to create their logo, and had already put in the work of developing their brand: company name, mission/vision/values, business model, ideal customer profile, and more.

Based on their vision and data, I landed on these brand words to serve as a guide for all of our design decisions: Inspire • Empower • Joy • Nature • Connection
Sketches
Based on the word "Nature," I explored various marks and treatments that would interact with the lettering. The client wanted to try a few options with hexagons and/or bees, and I expanded to various flora, the planet, and more.
Logo Design
After 2 short rounds of revisions, we landed on the bold, playful handmade type which was highlighted by the "spark," which became a brand element of its own. The spark speaks to inspiration, empowerment, and joy, and the organic ellipse encircling the mark feels like a cairn, which tracks back to the balance of nature.
This was the largest official color palette I've developed to date. 11 colors: PMS, CMYK, HEX, and RGB builds for a palette this size is not for the faint of heart! I gave each color a name, so future employees could refer to them easily when developing new product lines or marketing materials.
Visualizing a Design
The project scope was just a logo and color palette, but it was important to ensure that the logo would work well in various applications. Because the primary focus of the business is subscription boxes, testing the logo and colors on kraft paper was critical to ensuring the success of those choices.
In the end, the client received a full toolkit of dozens of logo files in various sizes and formats, an extensive color palette with color builds to apply to various product lines as they grow, and an additional branding element to apply to all kinds of branded materials. In a short time, they've applied their new branding and expanded their brand vocabulary to grow their following on social media, and gain new customers.
