urban scenarios workshop
infrastructure and reintegration in the urban fabric
Bucharest, Romania | 2012
The third edition of the Urban Scenarios workshop in Bucharest deals with the theme of infrastructure and the reintegration of former industrial spaces through public space. Developed in collaboration with the Institute of Architecture I2a Morcote, Switzerland, the workshop deals with two cases in parallel: central infrastructure at the Răzoare intersection in Bucharest and peripheral infrastructure - Lugano Arzo. The study began with the study of accesses on the site, going in the first place through accesses to Bucharest, through the airport, railway and beltway. We observed the gap regarding the dynamics of development between the south and north of the city, concluding that the development of a business center in the Răzoare intersection would facilitate southern area development. The intersection will become an important transportation hub, since there is an official proposal to regulate road transportation and introduce in the underground a new artery of road traffic, subway transportation and railways. Furthermore, we analyzed the surrounding landmarks, direct access to the site and traffic intensity in order to determine, based on these, the optimal positioning of the programs and pedestrian accesses on the site.
The final solution is represented by nine towers with different heights, in which different programs take place: housing, retail, culture, offices, sports, health, administration, food services.
