'Doorstop' Combat Robot
Doorstop was our first attempt at building an robot outside of Vex Robotics Competition, and our entry into the world of combat robotics. Doorstop was built in the beetle weight category for combat robotics, which is an robot at or below 1.37kgs. Due to the time constraints at the time and the short moment of notice given, as well as it being our first attempt at combat robotics, we leaned towards a more simpler design. The design comprised of an drive powered base which was fabricated out of steel base and steel wedge with an aluminum angle used for the sides and a polycarbonate top cover. Doorstop was powered with a 2 wheel brushed DC motor drive and powered by a 4cell lipo battery. Although it was our first attempt at combat robotics, we did well with Doorstop at our first competition, we ended up losing finals and taking home the second place trophy.
