Let's Speech! : A Design Intervention

Information Design Thesis
Let's Speech!
An Information Design thesis that aimed to use graphic design as a medium for home-based speech therapy. This Design Intervention's main purpose was to encourage parents of children with cochlear implants to practice speech therapy outside the actual therapy sessions, specifically at home.

Level 1: Let's Sing
This is a starter level made for children who have just started hearing.

Level 2: Let's Act!
This next level aims to teach sound recognition through animal sounds. Each cards have a certain animal illustrated on them with simple questions such as "What sound does a dog make?" on one side of the card, and animal sound at the other side of the card.
Level 3: Let's Choose!
For children who are able to speak a few words, this level aims to encourage conversations between them and their parents by use of scenarios, choices, and repetition.

The idea for this activity was to include trinket toys - a girl, a boy, a cat, and a dog, all with blue and red versions. However, due to the pandemic, the plan was not pushed through.

With the cards alone, parents are to pick two random cards from the pile, and ask the child to choose where to go. Children are encouraged to practice saying words by repeating after their parent the question and the choices.
Let's Speech! Journal Tracker
This tracker is made in a format of a survey for parents to not only track their child's speech progress, but also for teachers to know how the sessions have progressed and for them to be able to provide assistance when needed.

Disclaimer: While this project was created with cochlear implanted children in mind, this does not limit its use to them only. This may be used for children with other disabilities if it works for them as well. The goal of this was mainly to provide simple activities that parents can do at home and even for a couple short sessions.
