Form Follows Function Research ​​​​​​​

The problem I am exploring is stress we all experience in life. I have read a lot of articles about how many forms of art can help relieve stress. There are many other gadgets that we've heard of that help reduce stress. Additionally, some patterns are used in this area as well to help calm you and reduce anxiety. So my idea is to create a sculpture of some sort that has stress relief qualities as well as patterns that help reduce anxiety. I will do more research on how exactly these patterns and types of sculpture effect you and help your mental health so I can accurately create something that help to reduce stress.

Form Follows Function Sketchup Design

I wanted to find an object that help to reduce the stress that many of us experience in our lives. I know that there are some objects that already exists to help with stress, like small gadgets or things you can play with. However, I wanted to create something that helps to destress your entire body at once. After researching some of the smaller objects, I then looked into some different things people do to destress. A lot of what I read was relaxing, exercising, and many people go to a spa or get a massage. This was a lot of my inspiration for the object I created.

I had the idea of creating a chamber of some sort that you would lay in and be able to unwind and be secluded. The chamber is made of metal and almost looks like a coffin. It has a rounded top and a small opening that you use to get into the chamber. There is salt water at the bottom just deep enough so you can float. The chamber is very big so you don't feel claustrophobic at all and you have room to move around. I made the inside a coming cool blue color, and there is the option of playing some music or just calming sounds while you are relaxing in the chamber as well. 

The idea of form follows function is a bit complicated in my mind. I keep going back to whether form determines the function of something, or function determines the form, because I think that it can go both ways. I believe that form is the way something is constructed and how it looks, whereas function is what the object does or is meant to do. When considering the idea of "form follows function," what I think is that it is saying that you first think about what you want your project to do, or the function of it, and then you construct it based on this idea.
