'स्वरांगण' - A campus for Music
Architectural thesis was always supposed to be something that you're passionate about, some interest that's ingrained in you for years, something that you know in and out. Music has been one of my dire interests since my growing up years. My elder brother would introduce me to all uncommon and Indie (Independent) Music from India, Pakistan, UK and the USA. In my college years I took up Photography as a hobby and would shoot at a lot of music gigs (concerts) around Mumbai, and made a bunch of musician friends over the years. This took me to a deeper understanding of the needs and lacks of the Indie Music Scene in Mumbai.
On a recent visit to Auroville, it made me realize that a space, though architecturally rich, also has a non-built pre-façade envelope to it that appeals the spectators. Taking inspiration from the organic built nature of Auroville and fusing it with the intended function of providing a platform for Indie musicians, Swaraangan could be seen as Auroville for Music.
