Theme: Punk Rock / Alternative Rock
My initial inspiration for this image were the flyers that have been pasted over and over one another at famous punk rock venues. Pictured here is the bathroom at CBGB, a concert hall famous for hosting bands such as The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, and hundreds more.
First, I found the Cornell library website that had thousands of high-res scans of vintage punk flyers from the 70's-90's available for download and made a background for my collage with them.
I then thought of 3 influential faces in rock, not just punk rock. I took Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth (one of my favorite bands) as the face of garage rock. Then Syd Barrett, co-founder of Pink Floyd as the face of psychadelic rock, and then Sid Viscous of The Sex Pistols as the face of punk rock.
I then merged them together, selected them, and stroked them as a whole in order to separate them from the background more.
I finished off with taking 3 graphics from an album of each of the artist. (While Syd Barrett was no longer in Pink Floyd during the creation of DSTM, I chose to use that graphic because it was a much more influential album than Piper at The Gates of Dawn or anything else he helped create with Floyd.)
Stroking the graphics from each artist to blend it with the tri-color stroke used around the artists.
