For this project I started with an Art Themed Mad Lib. I randomly filled in words and ideas to generate ideas for the project. The three ideas for the pieces were first a dog jumping on a trampoline using a camera. The next one was a foot kicking the earth while on the moon, the last one was an airplane that had fruit as its passengers. For all of these pieces I used Pop Art as the theme.
Another component of this project was that we had to create everything out of brushes. To do this I would import an image and alter it to the way I wanted it to look by playing with the opacity and shape, and then I would use the "define brush preset" tool to make the brush. For this piece I used outside images for the dog, trampoline, and camera.
For the background of this piece I created the dots with a free hand brush. I opened a new document and used the ruler tool to create straight lines. I then used a circular brush and created the dots on by one. To speed up the process after a few rows I copied and pasted them so I could make more dots at a time. After I covered the whole page I created a brush and then used that brush to make overlapping dots next to the original to give it more dimension.
Next I used some of the brushes I had already created to begin shaping and brainstorming the piece. I decided I wanted the camera the dog was holding to be shooting out color beams like a flash.
Then I added the "pow" shape behind the dog. I created a brush in the shape outlineI wanted and then filled it in with two different colors and used the dot background brush I had already created to fill in the shape with dots.
Here I added the color flash first by using the free hand brush and the shift key to create straight lines. I then used the dot background brush to go over the color flashes to add the dots in a darker shade to add more of the pop art feel.
For the next piece I first began to make the brushes I knew I was going to use. For the earth I created a sort of abstract earth by free hand drawing it. For the leg and the moon I used pictures for the internet that I then altered.
For the foot I used the brush twice in two different colors on top of each other and then erased the parts I didn't want. For the moon I made the brush the size I wanted and only used the corner of it because I didn't want the full moon in the piece.
For the background I was debating between the rays of color, of the geometrical shapes. I decided to use the geometrical background because it thought it gave more depth to the piece. For that background I used a free hand brush and created random shapes using the shift key to insure straight lines. I then filled in all of the sections with different shades of grey, green, and blue.
To continue working on the background I first created a star brush to use on two of the sections. For the sections with straight line I drew them, and for the ones with the dots I used the dot background brush from the first piece.
To complete the piece I added the earth using the brush I created and used another brush with a light opacity to add a shadow behind it.
For the fruit I used two different methods to create the brushes. For the strawberry and pineapple I use an image from the internet and put it in the filter gallery to give it more dimension and look more abstract. For the banana and watermelon I drew them myself with the brush tool and added in black with the pencil brush to give it a pop art effect.
Next I created the background. I used rulers to create the boxes and filled them in different colors.
I then created one of the planes by using the plane brush I created and putting the fruit in each of the plane windows. I used two different color schemes that alternated every other window. I also filled in the background behind the fruit.
Lastly I copied and pasted the first airplane I created and changed the colors by going over each of them with the airplane brush.
