Alcantara is a tradename given to a composite material used to cover surfaces and forms in a variety of applications. It can be described as an artificial substitute forsuede leather.

Alcantara has applications including furniture, clothing, jewelry, helmets and automotive (such as in seating, dash trimming and headliners in many high-end automotive suppliers). Alcantara is being used currently as a flame retardant driver seat covering material for Formula One race cars. It is also used in the ear pads material for the high-end, audiophile headphones. 

Chiara Leonardi (Politecnico Di Milano), Patrik Lowe (MIT), Marine Vitale (Politecnico Di Milano), and myself came together in an attempt to find a new line of products from Alcantara, called myAlcantara. myAlcantara is a new line of smart products targeted to business professionals who need useful, light, and trendy items to fit their dynamic lifestyle and work pace.
