Surface Tension explores the transition coral reefs are making from healthy and colorful to sick and bleached as a result of human-caused climate change. Vibrant and complex coral reef assemblages appear to turn white, dissolve and drip down the wall.

Each piece was intricately hand-sculpted and glazed by artist Courtney Mattison in her Los Angeles studio using environmentally mindful practices and materials in Spring 2020. A portion of proceeds from the sale of this work will support the NAACP and its Environmental and Climate Justice Program.
