Hanzimals
Hanzimals* is a project commissioned by the Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund's Illustrator for iPad team.
This project began in February 2019, when I combined an illustration of a pig with 猪 (the Chinese character for pig) to celebrate the arrival of the lunar year. Almost two years later, the Adobe Creative Residency allowed me to complete the entire menagerie. Hanzimals is a modern interpretation of the Chinese zodiac: an icon/illustration of each zodiac animal combined with each animal's Chinese character, presented as a single glyph.
* Hanzi is the term for Chinese characters (you may be more familiar with the Japanese term kanji—hanzi is the same thing in Chinese).
