서초동 예술의 전당
음악당으로 올라가는 길목 언저리에는
길고양이 쉼터가 있습니다.
이곳의 주역들은
특히 볕이 좋은 때에
정원 한가운데서
나른한 포즈로 셔터찬스를 잡아주기도 하고
몰려드는 관객을 향해
소프라노 음성으로 화답하기도 합니다.
'언젠가 한 번쯤 가까이 다가와 준다면' 하는 마음에
전시나 도슨트 일정이 있는 날이면
꼭 고양이 간식을 가방에 넣어 다니며
시간 틈새마다 쉼터 쪽을 산책했는데,
몇 번의 발걸음 뒤에
고양이들에게 간식을 주면 안 된다는
쉼터의 규칙을 알게 되었습니다.
언젠가 라는 말은
손 끝에 닿는, 한 번도 뜯지 못한 바스락한 감촉으로
가방 한켠에 자리 잡았습니다.

In the Seocho-dong Arts Center,
on the edge of the street corner that leads uphill to the music hall,
there is a shelter for stray cats.
The occupants here,
especially when the sunshine makes the weather perfect,
standing in the center of the garden in a languid pose,
they create chances to take opportune shots,
and to audiences flocking together,
they also respond with their soprano voice.
Hoping that 'they would come closer to me one day,'
whenever I had had exhibitions or docent scheduled,
I made sure to carry cat snacks in my bag,
and I walked around the shelter every spare moment.
After a few trips to the shelter,
I learned the rules of the shelter that
cats should not be given snacks.
As the word “one day”
brushed against my fingertips,
with an indistinct touch that has never been exposed,
it reserved a small space inside the bag.
