Playground Graffiti in Baltimore

Baltimore's Playground Graffiti Series
A several year journey to every playground in the city/surrounding areas.
This is the project that takes up the most of my time.  A few years back I took a class at MICA and somehow decided on this idea to be my semester-long project.  I ended up falling in love with it.  I visited maybe 4 or 5 playgrounds and got a plethora of graffiti-filled images.

The juxtaposition of the harsh words against the bright plastic playthings that are all so easily recognizable is a great statement, in my opinion.

I let this project sit for about a year and didn't touch it, then one day I went on google maps, and little by little covered the entire city of Baltimore, along with several outlying areas that I knew would be full of good stuff. I wrote down every school that I found, and have since been visiting them.  Some I've been to more than once.  The great thing about this project is it's always changing.  The same images I shot two years ago can't be found anymore.  The city has painted over the vulgarity and when I go back, I find new words written.

Hopefully one day this series will lead to a book.
