Sunsets are the magic hour when the soft golden sunlight touches us a reminder to enjoy the last moments of daylight. The waves of the sea are playing cheerfully with kids, and I take this shot as a reminder to be grateful for every day of life. - Guarujá, State of São Paulo, Brazil - 12/Jul/2020
Tiradentes was one of the wealthiest towns in colonial Brazil during the gold rush, nearly three centuries ago. The old-style architecture remained, while the gold and the rush are forever gone. But the glorious golden skies were an unexpected treat I was able to capture with my Sony camera, one of my favorite memories of that trip.
A plastic bottle remains intact, while the roots of a tree entangle it, in a process that may have been taking place for months. How is the slow and calm rhythm of nature adapting to the frenetic human consumerist behavior? Curiously, the shape of the mountain nesting the sea in the background resembles the shape of the rock nesting the water bottle—something I noticed after I took the picture. It may be a coincidence, but I like to think it as a hint on what we might find in the depths of that sea—a glimpse of the Anthropocene.
