ICONS OF THE PHILIPPINES

The concept of these icons are inspired by the Philippines. There is so much to learn about the my culture and country. There are many ways people express who they are and where they came from. I have met people who are not familiar of my country. My objective is to share my culture through these icons. Making these made me feel proud to be a Filipino. I hope that you can feel the richness of the culture and traditions the Philippines have through these icons.

The journey started with sketches.
The project is to make icons. I had three ideas I wanted to explore: Office items, fruits, and vegetables. I initially wanted to do vegetables so I did research to get inspiration on what kind of style I want my icons to be. The more I looked at the icons that other people made, the more I felt like I needed to think of a different concept. I wanted a concept that I have not thought of before. That's when I thought of the Philippines.

The focus of my sketches was to get as much ideas as I can of items or objects that have a special meaning to my country.

Here is an image of my vector draft:
The feedbacks I got are about the consistency of my design. Someone pointed out how all of the icons have the stamp style except the fan ("Pamaypay" in Tagalog). Another pointed out how the stamp design in not as obvious with the flag. And there was another one who pointed out that the anchor points look like it was an accident.
I applied those feedback for my final vector designs. I also made an attempt to play with colors. Here's the final image!

First of all, I decided to stick with the vibrant colors because these are the colors that are commonly used in the Philippines. I wanted to stay true to the design of the objects but also incorporate my own style. I chose to do this because the goal was to help the viewers learn more about the culture in the Philippines. This was designed to be unique and accurate.
