Peta Singapura III

Peta Singapura III | 2023

It has been 9 years since I drew the first Peta Singapura illustration in 2014, over a span of 3-4 nights. A friend mentioned that Singapore has nothing much to draw compared to Europe when he saw a map I did of a trip to Europe then. The illustration incorporates the various layers of history, stories and memories in Singapore.
I remembered drawing the piece in 2014, it was like being a resident tourist, exploring Singapore as I drew it. 9 years later, re-drawing and revisiting this piece felt like a journey back in time. In the process, it was rediscovering Singapore, relieving memories of places close to heart and reflecting on the changes over the past 9 years.

One thing hasn't change is that for a tiny red dot, there is always something somewhere to draw, to be interested, in the form of wildlife, a long-gone kampong or a piece of architecture. The current version, which I started drawing on 21st June, is larger than the 2014 original, but there is still so much to capture on this tiny island.
